According to ILO report, 83% of jobless population is youth and share of youngsters with secondary or higher education in the total unemployed youth has increased from 54.2% in 2000 to 65.7% in 2022.

According to UNDP, as economies shift from primary produce to more value added products, it will lead to human resource upgrading to high-skill.

In a Knowledge Based Economy "employability" is not just skillset for one individual but is a differentiator within the same employee – employer market ecosystem.

The ILO defines employability skills as the skills to retain a job, progress at work and cope with change, secure another job and enter more easily into the labour market. Individuals are most employable when they have broad-based education and training, basic and portable high-level skills, including teamwork, problem solving, information and communications technology (ICT) and communication and language skills.

In such competitive environment it is the soft skills that provide the candidate with a competitive edge which helps him differentiate with the others.

Today the hard skills (specific to the job) are not the sufficient factor as the minimum acceptable level is being replaced with a delta augmented by the soft skill.
